For those of you who attended #intermitten17, you know the inspiring force that is Detroiter Laura Khalil. She gave a killer talk, and we are beyond stoked to have her join us for #intermitten18 as our emcee! We asked Laura some questions about her involvement in Intermitten, and here’s what she had to say.
What inspired you to get involved in Intermitten?
The Intermitten team! They are so awesome, wonderful to work with, and feel really passionate about creating a great event.
What’s your favorite thing about the Midwest tech scene/community?
There is a deeply collaborative approach to the Midwest’s tech scene that is positively unique! Having lived and worked with tech in San Francisco, I saw a lot of companies get funding that had no revenue plan. It was disillusioning. What I love about the Midwest tech scene is that because we are not awash in money for every pie in the sky idea, founders actually come up with really great ideas that are financially viable. I believe this makes us much more sustainable over the long run with investors and customers.
What do you do when you’re not at Intermitten?
I’m a business consultant for large technology firms, dog mom to Violet, comedic storyteller, keynote speaker and am eating my way through Baskin-Robbin’s 31 flavors. I received a phone call a month ago from the Free Press who was running a story on Domino’s and learned through the grapevine that I am an “expert” on their pizza. So there’s that. Leaving a legacy, people.
Why are you excited about #intermitten18?
Meeting the community! I spoke last year at Intermitten and am so excited to reconnect with this vibrant community.
Join us in Detroit on July 12 to hear more from Laura & all of our other speakers.
